CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN ENERGY CONSCIOUS BUILDING DESIGN
Efficiency Vermont invites you to enter the 2008 Design Competition: Energy Efficiency in Buildings. To download the registration and release form, please click here.
This competition recognizes innovative and integrated design approaches towards energy efficiency in Vermont 's commercial, institutional, industrial, and multifamily buildings. Projects must be located in Vermont and substantially completed between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2007.
This year's competition has two categories: New Construction and Renovation & Retrofit. The top projects in each category will receive the award for Best Integrated Design Solution for Energy Efficiency.
All entries are required to be submitted in poster format. Posters will be showcased at the Better Buildings by Design Conference on February 13 and 14, 2008, at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel and Conference Center in South Burlington. This biennial gathering of over a thousand design and construction professionals, vendors, facility managers, and owners is the region's premiere conference on energy efficiency in design and construction of buildings.
Winners will be notified during the second week of January 2008. Efficiency Vermont will feature award winning entries on its website and in a national online website database. We will also seek to promote winning entries in trade publications as well as in local and statewide media. Selected winners may be featured in magazines and other publications.
Posters and registration forms are due December 7, 2007. Efficiency Vermont welcomes and encourages your participation.

SCHEDULE
- Entries due (registration form & posters) by December 7, 2007. There is no entry fee.
- Jury convenes in late December.
- Awards will be presented at the Better Buildings by Design Conference on February 13, 2008 , and all entry posters will be displayed at the conference.
- Posters will be available for pick-up after the conference at Efficiency Vermont's office in Burlington.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR PROJECTS
- Located in Vermont.
- Multifamily (5 Units), Commercial, Institutional, and Industrial Buildings.
- Substantially completed since January 1, 2004.
- All information, images, and photographs submitted on the posters and registration form must be released and cleared for public reproduction.
SUBMISSION FORMAT
Poster design is at the discretion of the team or individual following these guidelines:
1. Mount on 24"x36" foam core boards (maximum of 3 boards per project entry).
2. Content can include sketches, renderings, photographs, drawings, narratives, graphs, metrics, and spreadsheets.
3. Include a brief description of the project including program, size, occupancy and building type, date of completion, total project cost, list of efficiency measures, estimated energy and cost savings, energy performance expressed in comparison to a baseline code-compliant building, incremental cost for energy measures, and paybacks.
4. Submit a fully completed registration form along with the poster.
5. Restrict the team and participant names to one half of a single 24"x36" board. This will be concealed during judging and then displayed at the conference.
JUDGING CRITERIA
1. Presentation and clarity of poster in demonstrating high performance building.
2. Comprehensive and integrated design approach.
3. Application of enhanced performance strategies.
4. Project economics and energy savings.
